A Dhaka court has handed down 50 years in jail to two Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leaders for exploding bombs at two buildings in Mymensingh and for storing explosives.
Salahuddin alias Salehin (37) and Asaduzzaman Ponir (27), members of Majlish-e-Shura of the group, were presented to Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 Wednesday.
Judge Md Rezaul Islam sentenced them to life imprisonment (30 years) and 20 years for offences under two different sections of the explosives act.
However, the verdict also stated that the two sentences would run concurrently with each other, meaning that they would actually stay in prison for 30 years.
They were also fined Tk 35,000 each and would have to serve an additional two years if they fail to pay the fines.
The court also released absconding JMB member Ashraful Islam alias Sharif as charges against him were not proved.
