Kishoreganj Transport Strike Enters

The indefinite transport strike called by a faction of Kishoreganj district transport workers’ union continued for the second day on Monday, causing sufferings to a huge number of inbound and outbound passengers of the district.

Vehicular movements on Kishoreganj-Dhaka and Kishoreganj- Mymensingh highways and internal roads in the district remained suspended till filing of this report at 1:30pm, reports our Kishoreganj correspondent.

The protestors ransacked a bus at about 12:00pm on Sunday on Kishoreganj-Dhaka highway at Pulerghat bazar after police rounded up an agitator from the spot.

One of the two factions of the transport workers’ union led by its member secretary Kanchan Mia called an indefinite transports strike in the district from Sunday, demanding explanation of income and expenditure of the last 10 years of the present committee and cancellation of the upcoming polls due to be held on January 4, 2010.

Earlier on December 24, at least five people were injured in a clash between two rival groups.
