The winners of online essay competition for Dhaka Division, arranged by Grameenphone Community Information Center (CIC) were awarded in a ceremony held in Dhaka recently.
The competition was arranged in all administrative division of Bangladesh to promote use of Information technology in the rural areas.
Odd-Egil Aasen, Director, Broadband and Internet, Commercial Division of Grameenphone distributed the prizes among the winners from Dhaka Division. AHM. Sultanur Reza, AGM, Fixed Broadband, Ferdousur Rahman, AGM, Market Communication of Grameenphone, James Blewett, General Manager, Katalyst, and Md. Shahid Uddin Akbar, CEO, Bangladesh Institute of ICT Development (BIID), were also present on the occasion.
Twenty winners in two different categories from Dhaka Division received prizes ranging from computers, mobile phones, books, crest and certificates. Parvin Sultana Alpina, of Gouripur, Mymensingh won the first prize in Group A and Osman Goni of Gazipur won the first prize in Group B.
The completion was initiated on November 2008 and continued until March 2009. During that time a total of 31, 500 essays were submitted online. Popular weekly magazine “Shaptahik” reviewed the essays and selected the winners from the different divisions.
